Bowdoin Tops Wellesley In Overtime To Win 2001 Invitational
WELLESLEY, MA - Bowdoin College, behind a game-high 19 points from tournament MVP Lora Trenkle, captured the 2001 Wellesley Invitational with a 56-55 overtime victory over host Wellesley College Sunday afternoon.
Jessie Mayol also scored in double figures for the Polar Bears, posting 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Junior point guard Kate Lyren, who scored a team-high 14 points, paced Wellesley. Fellow junior Christine Carbonello added 13.
Wellesley (1-1) outrebounded the Polar Bears, 43-40.
In the consolation game, Plattsburgh State defeated Wilkes University, 68-60.
Nichole Viti led four Plattsburgh State players in double figures with 19 points. Shauna Geary (17), Allison Vosh (15) and Erin Hutchinson (11) helped pace the Plattsburgh offense. Whitney Bull led Wilkes with 13 points, while Amy Jo Kachinko chipped in with 11.
Wilkes led 35-33 at the half, but Plattsburgh State shot nearly 61 percent from the floor in the second and took control of the ballgame. Plattsburgh State also held a 43-31 edge on the boards.
