Wellesley Captures Third Place At Seven Sisters Championship
SWARTHMORE, PA - Junior point guard Kate Lyren scored a game-high 21 points as the Wellesley College basketball team took third place at the Seven Sisters Championship with a 77-56 win over Smith Sunday at Swarthmore College.
Fellow junior Kelly Grover scored 16 points, while first-year Kristin Doeberl contributed 14. Junior Christine Carbonello scored eight points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as Wellesley easily outrebounded Smith, 46-27.
Wellesley (4-2) led by 12 at the break, 32-20, but was able to increase its lead in the second half by shooting 56 percent from the floor.
Grover and Lyren were each named to the Seven Sisters All-Tournament team for their play this weekend. Lyren scored 50 points in three games, while Grover posted 43 points and 22 rebounds.
Wellesley travels to Amherst College Thursday for a 6 p.m. contest with the Lord Jeffs.
