Wellesley Wins Mount Holyoke Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – First-year Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) won the Mount Holyoke Invitational to lead the Wellesley Cross Country team to a first place finish on Saturday in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Egan, who also won the Salem College Invitational in North Carolina two weeks earlier, ran Mount Holyoke’s 5k course in 19:29.6 to help the Blue score 23 points in the seven team event. MIT and Mount Holyoke tied for second, each with a score of 65.

Wellesley landed five runners in the top-10, led by race winner Egan and runner-up Rachael Blanchard (Scarborough, Maine) in 19:55.5. Megan Gross (New York, N.Y.) grabbed fourth with a time of 19:58.2, and Devaja Shafer (Alameda, Calif.) was close behind as she crossed the line at 20:03.2 to place seventh. Maura Tucker (Albany, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Eiseman (Scarsdale, N.Y.) rounded out the top ten as the two earned ninth and tenth places respectively. Tucker finished in a time of 20:09.8 and Eiseman completed the course in time of 20:15.6.

The Blue will race next Saturday at the New England Championships with 12:30 p.m. start time.
