Wellesley’s Clare Egan Wins Seven Sisters
and Guides Blue to Third Place Finish

Mawr, Pa. - Wellesley first-year Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth,
Maine) grabbed her third collegiate win at the
Seven Sisters Championships
hosted by Bryn Mawr College on Saturday afternoon. Egan, who is
Wellesley’s first individual champion in 12 years as the
event, covered the three-mile Featherbed Fields and Nature Trail
course
in 17:54 and helped the Blue score 75 points on the day, placing
the team third behind champions Haverford College (38 points) and
runners-up Swarthmore College (74 points) in the seven team event.
Devaja Shafer (Alameda, Calif.) crossed the line next for Wellesley.
Shafer ran the race in 18:59, placing 15th in a field of 108, and
teammate Madeline Harms (Topeka, Kan.) was on her heels as she
finished just one second later to nab 16th. Megan Gross (New York,
N.Y.) and Katie Hutchinson crossed the line in 19:18 and 19:21
respectively to finish 21st and 22nd.
Also
scoring in the event were Grace Logan (Miami, Fla.) and Katrina
Utz (Middletown, R.I.). Logan ran 19:51 to place 38th, while Utz
finished in 19:54 to place 40th.
The Blue will race next Saturday at their own Wellesley Invitational.
The event is set to start at 11:40 a.m.
