Cross Country Opens Season with Strong Finish at Connecticut College

WATERFORD, Conn. – Wellesley’s cross country team
kicked off its 2006 season on Saturday at the Connecticut College
Invitational where the team finished seventh out 27 Division I,
II, and III teams.
Leading the way for the Blue was first-year Clare Egan (Cape
Elizabeth, Maine) who, in her collegiate debut, finished 28th out
of 325 women with a near personal
best of 19:39 in the 5000 meter race. Senior co-captain, Elizabeth
Eiseman (Scarsdale, N.Y.), followed close behind with
a time of 19:47 and a 35th place finish. Other top finishers included
first-year
Devaja Shafer (Alameda, N.Y.), sophomore Jessica
Weng (Paramus,
N.J.) and junior Katrina Utz (Middletown, R.I.).
Shafer placed 41st with a time of 19:53, while Weng and Utz both
ran the course
in 20:19 finishing 59th and 60th respectively.
The Blue will return to action next weekend when the team travels
to North Carolina for the Salem College Invitational.
