Blue’s
Clare Egan Wins NEWMAC Championship and Helps Wellesley Grab Second
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Wellesley first-year Clare Egan (Cape
Elizabeth, Maine) won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon on the
Mount Holyoke College cross country course. The
Blue finished second at the event behind first-time
champion Coast Guard. Egan,
who ran
the race in 19:45.30,
earned
NEWMAC
Rookie
of Year as well
as NEWMAC
Runner
of the Year
honors.
First-year
Devaja Shafer (Alameda, Calif.) and senior co-captain Rachael
Blanchard (Scarborough, Maine) joined Egan on the NEWMAC All-Conference as
Shafer and Blanchard were among the top 14 finishers on the day.
Shafer finished in 20:31.70 for 12th place, while Blanchard crossed
the line just one second later (20:32.70) to snag 13th.
