WELLESLEY, MASS. – Tufts University defeated Smith, Vassar and Wellesley, capturing the 2003 Wellesley College Fencing Invitational, Saturday at Wellesley College
Tufts defeated both Smith and Vassar by the score of 16-11 and edged out Wellesley 14-13 en route to a first-place finish. Wellesley finished second overall earning victories over Smith (18-9) and Vassar (17-10), while Smith placed third with a 15-12 win over Vassar. Tufts took the Wellesley Invitational sweeping the Sabre bouts, 9-0, while gaining just enough points in the Foil and Epee matches to edge Wellesley 14-13. Wellesley's Irena Inman (Bedford, N.H.), the 2002 New England Epee "A" Champion, finished the day undefeated with a 9-0 mark. Inman currently holds a 39-3 record in her Epee bouts. Team Places
