The meet, which begins at 9 a.m. in the Keohane Sports Center, will feature teams from Wellesley, Tufts, Smith and Vassar. Wellesley is one of just 16 Division III athletic programs that sponsors varsity-level fencing as one of its intercollegiate programs - and one of 44 across all divisions. Wellesley who plays a rigorous schedule including several Division I opponents, including Brown, University of New Hampshire, Boston College, Army, Harvard and Dartmouth, captured the 2002 Wellesley Fencing Invitational with victories over Smith (19-8), Tufts (15-12) and Vassar (16-11). Sophomore Irena Inman (Bedford, N.H.) is the Wellesley fencer to watch. Last season, Inman earned Northeast Fencing All-Conference honors with a 11-2 overall record and captured the women's epee title at the New England Championships in 2002 winning nine out of 10 bouts in the "A" pool. Inman's performance helped lead Wellesley to a sixth-place finish in the combined event scoring. ## |
