The intercollegiate fencing program is designed for someone seriously interested in the study of fencing and eager to participate on a college team. The level of skill of the participants ranges from novice to advanced. Success is measured in terms of personal growth and personal bests, as well as team victories.

Practices are held four times weekly, Each fencer works on technique, conditioning and bouting. Individual lessons are given regularly in addition to group work. All equipment, including electric equipment, is supplied by the College. Though the official season begins in October and ends in March, some of the fencers continue with lessons and USFA competition into April and May. The collegiate season includes a number of invitationals where Wellesley competes against such teams as MIT, Harvard, Brandeis and Brown. In 1995, the NCAA added epee to the women's competition and Wellesley now competes in epee, foil and sabre.

The fencing team has both practice and competition studios. They are located on the second floor of the Keohane Sports Center.
