Wellesley, Mass. – Betsy Masiello (Solebury, Pa./Saratoga) and Ashley Bennett ( Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) each netted two goals a piece to lead Wellesley to a 6-0 shutout victory against MIT in NEWMAC field hockey action Saturday at Wellesley. Alissa Gordon (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and Erinn Crane (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) scored a goal a piece to round out the scoring for Wellesley, while Crane added two assists. Wellesley now 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC won its fifth straight. MIT fell to 2-9 and 0-3 in the NEWMAC.
Gordon opened the scoring for Wellesley finishing an assist from Crane just five minutes into the game to put the Blue on the board early. Five minutes later, Masiello found the back of the net for her first goal of the game, off of a Emma Whitman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) assist, to Wellesley ahead 2-0 with 25 minutes remaining in the half. Wellesley led 4-0 at the end of the half, as Crane and Bennett each found the back of the net. Crane capitalized on a Mira Patel assist (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) while Tori Nelson (Wellesley, Mass./Lake Braddock) fed Bennett for her first goal of the game. Wellesley went ahead 5-0 less than two minutes into the second half as Crane fed Bennett for her second goal with 33:30 remaining in the game and then Masiello netted her second goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining for the final score
