Masiello Leads Wellesley Past Clark 1-0


Wellesley, Mass. – Betsy Masiello (Solebury, Pa./Saratoga) netted an unassisted goal in the 11th minute to lead Wellesley past Clark 1-0 in NEWMAC field hockey action, Tuesday at Wellesley.

With the win Wellesley remains undefeated in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference and is now 10-2 and 4-0. Clark suffered only its second loss of the season and stands at 11-2 and 4-1. Both teams had been tied for first place in the NEWMAC prior to Tuesday's game.

Wellesley, which was outshot by Clark 15-9, was bolstered by the solid play of sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Andrews (Edgecomb, Maine/Kents Hills) who made seven saves, including five in the second half as Clark poured on the pressure. Clark had numerous chances in Wellesley's defensive end with four penalty corners while rattling off 13 second half shots.

Clark's Jesse Egan made five saves for the Cougars.

Wellesley returns to action Friday, October 18 at 4 p.m. when it travels to Springfield, Mass. to take on NEWMAC opponent Springfield College.
