For Immediate Release WOMEN’S FIELD HOCKEY –11.2.02 Contact: Christina Cracolici Phone: (781) 283-2003 E-mail: ccracoli@wellesley.edu Arfsten Tallies Hat Trick to Lead Wellesley Past Smith 4-0 in the First Round of the NEWMAC Field Hockey Playoffs Wellesley, Mass. - Wellesley senior Marret Arfsten (Moorestown, N.J.) tallied a hat-trick and junior Alissa Gordon (Sudbury, Mass.) added a goal to lead Wellesley past Smith 4-0 in the first round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Field Hockey playoffs, Saturday at Wellesley. Arfsten netted all three of her goals in the first half putting Wellesley on the board with 17:59 remaining in the first half with an unassisted score for her first goal. Zana Previti (Ashburnham, Mass.) connected with Arfsten for her next two goals to give Wellesley a 3-0 halftime advantage. Gordon scored the Blue's final goal of the game in the second half off of a Tori Nelson (Wellesley, Mass.) for the ending score, 4-0. Wellesley, the top-seed in the 2002 NEWMAC Field Hockey Playoffs, will host semifinal and final round of the championship. Wellesley will play fourth-seeded Babson College Saturday, November 9th at 12 p.m. Babson advanced to the semifinals with a 2-0 win over Wheaton.
