Wellesley Nips Tufts 1-0


Medford, Mass.
– With just over a minute remaining in the first half Marret Arfsten (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) fired in the game-winning goal on a Betsy Masiello (Soldoury, Pa./Saratoga) assist on a free hit to give Wellesley a 1-0 non-conference field hockey win over Tufts University, Wednesday in Medford, Mass. With the win, Wellesley improves to 2-1, while Tufts falls to 1-2.

Wellesley carried the momentum of the late first half goal and did not allow a single Tufts shot in the second half, while allowing just two penalty corners. Caitlin Andrews (Edgecomb, Maine/Kents Hill) made seven saves in the first half to earn the shutout victory for the Blue while the Jumbos’ Lauren Rufino (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and Julie Jackson (Medway, Mass.) split time in goal making four and seven saves

Wellesley returns to action Saturday, September 21 at Smith for the Seven Sisters Championship.
