Up 3-0 at halftime thanks to two first half goals from senior Betsy Masiello (Soldoury, Pa./Saratoga) and a third from junior Alissa Gordon (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Subbury), Wellesley held on for a 3-2 win over a surging Haverford squad (0-5). Behind the stellar goal-keeping of sophomore Caitlin Andrews (Edgecomb, Maine/Kents Hills), who recorded eight saves in the win, including five in the second half alone, the Blue stopped a near come-back bid by the Fords who netted two goals in the second half. Lisa Paschall put Haverford on the board just three minutes into the second half to cut the Wellesley lead to 3-1. Haverford then cut the Wellesley lead to 3-2 following a Bethany Grybala goal with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, but Wellesley held on for the win. The second game of the afternoon was a different story, however, as Wellesley netted four goals in the first four minutes of play and never looked back downing Vassar (3-3) 7-2 to advance to the championship game. Wellesley dominated ever aspect of the game, holding a 38-12 shot advantage and a 12-3 advantage on penalty corners. Wellesley’s Marret Arfsten (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) had three goals and two assists to lead the Blue, while Masiello chipped in with a goal and an assist. Wellesley will play either Smith or Mt.
