AMHERST WINS 2003 WELLESLEY GOLF INVITATIONAL
Amherst’s Kathryn Kuchefski Finishes as Individual Medalist
Wellesley, Mass. – Amherst’s
Kathryn Kuchefski (Wellesley, Mass./Milton Academy) shot a first-round
low of 78 and then followed with a second-round 77 to lead the field
of 36 golfers at the 2003 Wellesley Golf Invitational.. Kuchefski
finished in first place as the invitational tournament’s individual
medalist with a 36-hole score of 155 to lead Amherst to a first-place
finish at the par-72 Nehoiden Golf Course, Sunday at Wellesley.
Amherst took first place for the second consecutive year with a
two-round aggregate score of 672. Wellesley placed second with a
two-round total of 718. Susan Choi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led
Wellesley with a final score of 173 (89-84) which was good for a
three-way tie for sixth place with St. Lawrence’s Meghan Clement
(88-85) and Mount Holyoke’s Audry Longo (90-83). Victoria
Lyo (San Francisco, Calif.) finished in a tie for ninth with a two-round
score of 175. Lyo shot an 81 in the first round, the third best
score of the day, and then followed with a 94 in the second round.
Amherst had three golfers finish in the top five as Kuchefski, Emily
Foran (Dallas, Pa.), and Meg Sullivan (Northampton, Mass.) placed
first, fourth and fifth respectively. Foran finished with a 170
(86-84) and Sullivan ended the invitational with a 172 (88-84).
