WELLESLEY PLACES FIRST AT 2004 WELLESLEY SPRING GOLF INVITATIONAL
WELLESLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Susan
Choi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) placed first out of a field of 26 competitors
shooting a two-day total of 162 to lead the Wellesley College Golf
team to its first-ever Tournament win, Sunday at Nehoiden Golf Course
in Wellesley.
Wellesley placed first with a team score of 714, followed by second-place
Amherst College with a 726. St. Lawrence placed third with a team
score of 746 while Bryant placed fourth with a two-day total of
808. In the three-year history of the program, Wellesley had
never placed first as a team until this weekend although coming
close in 2001, 2002 and 2003 with second place finishes in its annual
golf invitational.
Choi led the field after the first-round shooting an 11-over-par
83 through the first 18 and then followed with a Wellesley College
Invitational low-round of 79 through the final 18 holes on the par-72
Nehoiden Golf Course. Vicki Lyo (San Francisco, Calif.) placed sixth
for Wellesley shooting a 177 (87-90), while Jenna Roche (89-97 186)
and Jen Hazelton (91-95 186) tied for 10th place and Monica Sese
(95-94 189) placed 13th.
Mount Holyoke’s Audry Longo placed second overall just one-stroke
off of Choi with a two-day total of 163 (84-79), while St. Lawrence’s
Courtney Tesser finished third shooting a 168 (83-85).
