WELLESLEY WINS FALL INVITATIONAL AS CHOI MEDALS
WELLESLEY, MASS. – Wellesley’s
Susan Choi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) shot a 76 in the second day of
the 2004 Wellesley Fall Invitational to lead the Blue to a first-place
finish with a team score of 686. Choi individually medaled for Wellesley
placing first out of a field of 40 competitors with a two-day total
of (80-76) 156 at the Par-72 Nehoiden Golf Course on the campus
of Wellesley College. Choi’s tournament total of 156 is the
lowest 36-hole score for a Wellesley golfer since the inception
of the program in 2001, and her second round 76 is the lowest round
ever recorded by a Wellesley golfer on Nehoiden.
Trailing Mount Holyoke’s Audry Longo (Middletown, Conn.) by
one stroke after shooting an eight-over-par Choi 80 in the opening
round of the tourney, Choi battled back to fire a four-over-par
76 to earn the tournament’s individual medal.
Wellesley claimed the first team spot shooting a 346 in the opening
round and a 340 in the second round, outdistancing second place
finisher Mount Holyoke by just six strokes. Amherst’s Emily
Foran (Dallas, Pa.) placed second overall shooting a (81-79) 160
to lead the Lord Jeffs to a third-place team with 697 points. Mount
Holyoke’s Longo finished tied for third with a two-day total
of (79-84) 163 to lead the Lyons to a second place team finish with
692 points.
