BABSON HOLDS OFF WELLESLEY 16-11

BABSON PARK, Mass. –  Babson’s Alexa Rad (New York, N.Y.) scored six goals, including five in the second half, to lead the Beavers past Wellesley 16-11 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) lacrosse game, Tuesday at Babson. With the win Babson earns its sixth straight win and improves to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC.

Babson’s Libby Bryant (Arriwsic, Maine) and Sarah Siciliano (Newton, Mass.) also had multiple-goal games netting four and three a piece while Erin Conroy (Old Greenwich, Conn.) chipped in with two goals and two assists.

Laura Bender (Mattapoisset, Mass.) and Dawn Kim (Greenwich, Conn.) combined to score all 11 of Wellesley’s goals. Bender had a season-high six goals while Kim added five goals for Wellesley which now stands at 0-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Wellesley led early on in the contest and took a  5-3 lead with 17 minutes left in the first half on Bender’s fourth goal of the opening stanza to give the Blue its largest and final lead of the game. Wellesley would hold onto the 5-3 lead until Babson scored three unanswered goals in the final ten minutes of the first half to take a slim 6-5 advantage into the break.

Babson’s Siciliano started the Beavers three-goal run finishing an assist from Bryant with nine minutes remaining to cut the lead to 5-4. Four minutes later, Babson would knot the score up at five goals a piece on Toni Pantuosco’s (Hampden, Mass.) lone goal of the game, before Rad would complete the three goal run to give the Beavers a one-goal advantage at 6-5 with 21 seconds left in the first half.

Wellesley’s Kim would tie the score in the opening minutes of the first half, but it was a close as the Blue would get the rest of the way at Babson outscored Wellesley 10-6 in the second half.

Babson’s Jennie Williams (Andover, Mass.) made four saves in the win, while Wellesley’s Alissa Gordon (Sudbury, Mass.) turned back eight shots.
