GILL LEADS WELLESLEY TO FIRST LACROSSE WIN OF THE SEASON
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Audrey
Gill (Exeter, N.H.) scored four goals to lead Wellesley to its first
win of the season with a 10-9 victory over Mount Holyoke College
in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) lacrosse game, Saturday at Mount Holyoke.
Gill’s four goals were her first of the season and a career
best single-game performance. Wellesley’s Dawn Kim (Greenwch,
Conn.), Lydia McGuigan (New York, N.Y.) and Maxine Brownstein (Roseland,
N.J.) each chipped in with two goals a piece for the Blue which
snapped a six-game losing streak with the win to stand at 1-6 overall
and 1-3 in the NEWMAC action.
Mount Holyoke’s Caitlin Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) paced the
Lyons with four goals while Nicole Tuma (Detroit, Mich.) added two
goals and Kit Hixon (Concord, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist.
With the loss Mount Holyoke remains winless in 2004 and is 0-8 overall
and 0-4 in the NEWMAC.
Alissa Gordon (Sudbury, Mass.) and Ashleigh Korves (Riva, Md.)
split time in goal for Wellesley. Gordon made six saves and allowed
six goals while Korves turned back five shots and allowed three
goals. Mount Holyoke starter Emily Garber (Barrington, R.I.) played
13 minutes making two saves and allowing five goals while substitute
Lauren Mulcahy played 47 minutes with six saves and five goals against.
