WELLESLEY TRIPS UP SMITH 11-6

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. –  Laura Bender (Mattapoiset, Mass.) netted three goals while Maxine Brownstein (Roseland, N.J.) and Audrey Gill (Exeter, N.H.) each tallied two goals a piece as Wellesley College closed out its regular season with an 11-6 win over New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference rival Smith College, Saturday at Smith.  Gill also tallied a team-high three assists to end the game with five points.

Wellesley took control of the game early and held a decisive 8-2 lead at the halftime break as Bender scored all three of her goals in the first half to lead the Blue.  With the win, Wellesley improves to 3-7 overall and 3-3 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. Smith falls to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in conference action.

Smith’s Mary Kathryn Sagaria (Columbus, Ohio) paced the pioneers with a game-high  four goals while Molly Mulligan (Troy, N.Y.) and Annalee Harris (Saxtons River, Vermont) chipped in with a goal each.

Alissa Gordon (Sudbury, Mass.) made four saves and allowed two goals for the Blue in 30 minutes of action while reserve keeper Ashleigh Korves (Riva, Md.) turned back seven Smith shots in the second half. Smith keeper Bonnie Ewald (Putney, Vermont) made 10 saves.
