History
In 1980, the original Seven Sisters -- Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Radcliffe, Smith, Vassar and Wellesle -- began to consider holding championship tournaments in each sport common to the seven schools. Radcliffe, now competing as part of Harvard, opted not to join, and Barnard, competing as part of Columbia, was unable to participate in all championships.
To replace Radcliffe and Barnard, the participating Seven Sisters invited Haverford College and Swarthmore College to join the field. Additionally, an eighth team competes in each tournament as a wild-card entry. This year, the Seven Sisters welcome wild card Cedar Crest College.
Seven Sisters Championships are held in basketball, crew, cross-country, field hockey, lacrosse, squash, swimming and diving, tennis, and volleyball. |
