Vassar Downs Mount Holyoke, 18-7

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Vassar used a strong first half, taking a 10-2 lead, to overpower Mount Holyoke College 18-7 in a first-round game at the Seven Sisters Championship. The win pits Vassar against Swarthmore in the semi-finals, which will be played at MacDowell Field at Babson College at 7:30 this evening (directions). Mount Holyoke drops to the consolation bracket, where they will play Cedar Crest at 5:30 at MacDowell Field (directions).

Megan Wefald (Granger, Ind.) led Mount Holyoke, with five goals, while Kristin Cody (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Danielle Babcock (Lexington, Mass.) added one goal each. Goalkeeper Lisa Roberts (Yarmouth, Maine) tallied 17 saves in the loss. Vassar was led by Ali Fantl (West Hartford, Conn.) and Christine Castellan (Media, Pa.) with five goals a piece, while Katama Martellucci (Montclare, Pa.) chipped in four. Fantl and Martellucci also had three assists each. Goalie Ariel Nelson (Greenlawn, N.Y.) had 12 saves.
