Swarthmore Advances Over Cedar Crest, 16-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – With a convincing 16-0 first-round win over Cedar Crest, Swarthmore advanced to the Seven Sisters Lacrosse semi-finals against the winner of the Mount Holyoke-Vassar game. The semi-final will be played at MacDowell Field at Babson College at 7:30 this evening (directions). Cedar Crest drops to the consolation bracket, where they will play the loser of the Mount Holyoke-Vassar game at 5:30 at MacDowell Field (directions). The win lifts Swarthmore to 4-2 on the season. Cedar Crest falls to 0-4.

Swarthmore used stifling defense, allowing Cedar Crest only four shots in the first half, to build a 12-0 lead before the break. Marissa Schaffer (Moreland Hills, Ohio) netted five goals in the first period, while Hannah Jaicks (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Lindsay Roth (Severna Park, Md.) chipped in two each. Swarthmore added four more goals in the second half, including two from Athena Samaras (Annapolois, Md.).
