Vassar Claims Seven Sisters Title With Win Over Wellesley
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Vassar College women’s lacrosse team won the 16th annual Seven Sisters Championship on Sunday, defeating host Wellesley College 9-8 in the title game.
Tina Castellan netted a game-high six goals for the Brewers, including Vassar’s final three goals to secure the win. Jennie McAllister and Lindsay Magida scored a goal apiece, and Ali Fantl notched one before receiving her second yellow card late in the first half. Wellesley first-year Haley Geller countered with three goals from aggressive play on offense.
Seniors Maxine Brownstein and Casey Logan each chipped in a free-position goal for Wellesley. The Blue got late goals from Geller, Colette Whitaker, and Loretta White, but Vassar regained possession with less than a minute remaining and held on until time expired.
Wellesley’s Kristin Jaronczyk recorded 10 saves, and Ariel Nelson stopped 19 shots for Vassar.
