STANTON LEADS WELLESLEY PAST CLARK 4-1

Wellesley, Mass. – Anna Stanton (Hanover, N.H.) tallied two unassisted goals, including the game-winner, to lift Wellesley to a 4-1 win over Clark in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s soccer game, Tuesday at Wellesley.

Stanton’s first goal broke open a scoreless game in the 61st minute when she rocketed in a long-range shot into the top of the nets after beating a defender one-on-one. Clark answered quickly however as Jennifer Scavone (Worcester, Mass.) knotted the score at one all just four minutes later.  Scavone goal came after she won a loose ball on a scramble in the box and placed the ball to the left side of the nets.

Stanton netted the eventual game-winner in the 71st minute on a blast from the top of the 18 to the upper right corner to give Wellesley (5-5-2, 2-2-1 NEWMAC) a 2-1 lead. Kelly Kehm (York, Pa.) and Jessica Van Houten (Highland, N.Y.) added insurance goals in the 84th and 86th minute respectively for the final score of 4-1.

Wellesley’s Elizabeth Senecal (Wellesley, Mass.) made five saves on seven shots while Caterina Giacomini (Ukaih, Calif.) made 11 saves for Clark (6-7, 1-4 NEWMAC).
