WELLESLEY BLANKS WPI 3-0
Wellesley, Mass. – Haley Stephenson
(Fresno, Calif.) netted her first collegiate goal leading Wellesley
to a 3-0 win against WPI in a New England Women’s and Men’s
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) soccer game, Saturday at Wellesley.
Stephenson finished a cross from Alison Carney (Healdsburg,
Calif.) in the 33rd minute to score what would prove to be the game-winning
goal. With the win Wellesley improves to 7-6-2 overall and
4-3-1 in the NEWMAC. WPI drops to 8-7-1 with the loss and
3-4-1 in the conference.
Elizabeth Senecal (Wellesley, Mass.) played solidly in goal for
Wellesley stopping all six shots she faced, recording her fifth
shutout of the season and 33rd of her career. WPI’s
Manda Cotterman (Hinsdale, Ill.) made nine saves.
Satya Twena (Newport Beach, Calif.) tallied two insurance goals
for the Blue in the second half to secure the win. Twena’s
first goal of the game came off an assist from Kelly Kehm (York,
Pa.) in the 59th minute. Kehm threaded a pass to Twena in the box
to give Wellesley a 2-0 advantage. Wellesley’s final score
came off of a brilliant individual effort from Twena in the 75th
minute. Twena collected a pass and beat two defenders before
placing a shot to the lower right corner.
Wellesley’s final regular season game will be on the road
versus nationally-ranked Wheaton College, Tuesday, October 28 at
3 p.m.
