WELLESLEY BLANKS SIMMONS 3-0

Boston, Mass. –   Wellesley used three goals from three players en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over Simmons in a non-conference women’s soccer game, Monday at Simmons.

Holding a distinct advantage in shots at 21-5, Wellesley’s offensive pressure worked to ensure the Blue’s first win of the 2003 season. Connie Spearnak (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored the game-winner on an unassisted tally in the 13th minute for a 1-0 Wellesley lead which would hold through the first half.  Satya Twena (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Alison Carney (Healdsburg, Calif.) netted second half goals for the Blue for the final score of 3-0.  Carney’s goal was the first of her career.

Elizabeth Senecal (Wellesley, Mass.) earned the shutout turning back all five of Simmons’ shots. It was Senecal’s first shutout of the season and 30th of her career. Simmons’ Anna Cotrell made nine saves.

Wellesley returns to action Wednesday, September 17 at 4:30 p.m. versus Framingham State.
