SMITH RALLIES TO DEFEAT WELLESLEY 3-2 IN OVERTIME

Northampton, Mass. –   Monroe Peterson (New York, N.Y.) finished an assist from Johanna Perez (San Francisco, Calif.) in the 97th minute to lift Smith to a 3-2 overtime win against Wellesley in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s soccer game, Saturday at Smith.

Smith rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit as Kendra Olivieri (Oakland, Calif.) and Eleanor Loomis (Mountain View, Calif.) netted second half goals.  Catherine Peo (Stow, Mass.) assisted on both goals for Smith. Olivieri’s goal came with just one second remaining in regulation to push to the game into overtime.

Wellesley jumped out to a 2-0 advantage on goals from Elise Duryee-Browner (San Francisco, Calif.) and Anna Stanton (Hanover, N.H.) in the first half. Duryee-Browner scored her first collegiate goal off of an assist from Jen Marcello (N. Kingstown, R.I.) in the 32nd minute.  Five minutes later, Satya Twena (Newport Beach, Calif.) connected with Stanton in the 37th minute for Stanton’s first goal of the season.

Smith’s Monica Jarman (Berkeley, Calif.) made eight saves in the winning effort while Wellesley’s Elizabeth Senecal (Wellesley, Mass.) turned back 10 shots.
