MARCELLO, TWENA LEAD WELLESLEY PAST COAST GUARD

WELLESLEY, MASS.– Jen Marcello (North Kingstown,
R.I.) tallied a hat-trick and Satya Twena (Newport Beach, Calif.)
scored two goals, including the game-winner, to lead Wellesley
past Coast Guard 5-1 in a New England Women’s and Men’s
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s soccer game, Saturday
at Wellesley. The win snaps a three-game slide for Wellesley to
improve to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC, while Coast Guard
falls to 1-12 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
Twena’s first goal of the game came in the in the 17th minute
off of an assist from Marcello, giving Wellesley an early 1-0 lead.
Wellesley took a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute when Twena tallied
her second goal of the game and team-leading 11th goal of the season
off of a neatly placed header from first-year Jen Lau (Honolulu,
Hawaii).
Trailing 2-1 late in the first half, Coast Guard cut into Wellesley’s
lead in the 36th minute when Erin Cada (Clarkson, Neb.) scored
on a double-assist from Katie Lappe (Catonsville, Md.) and Hillary
Allegretti (Huntington Station, N.Y.) following a direct kick.
However, Wellesley’s Marcello would quickly answer for the
Blue, tallying all three of her goals in a five-minute span during
the second half.
Marcello gave Wellesley a 3-1 cushion in the 54th minute on a
one-touch shot off of a pass from senior captain Anna Stanton (Hanover,
N.H.). Just four minutes later, Marcello tallied her second goal
of the game when she ran onto a through ball into the box from
Alison Carney (Healdsburg, Calif.) in the 58th minute. Marcello
would complete the hat-trick in the 59th minute when she knocked
in a deflection off of Coast Guard goalkeeper Torrie Lusardi (Holland,
Pa.) for the 5-1 final.
