KOFFMAN LEADS BRANDEIS PAST WELLESLEY 1-0 IN OVERTIME

WELLESLEY, MASS. – Rachel Koffman (Andover, Mass.) struck a 24-yard blast to the upper right corner of the nets to lift Brandeis to a 1-0 overtime win past Wellesley in a non-conference women’s soccer game, Tuesday at Wellesley. With the win Brandeis remains undefeated at 6-0 while Wellesley drops its third straight to fall to 4-3.

Koffman scored the game-winner on a short ball played off of a corner from Skylar Buchanan (Leonardo, N.J.) to end the game just over five minutes into the first overtime period.

Brandeis had two spectacular second half chances to earn the win in regulation, but failed to find the back of the net.  Brandeis’ Lisa Kaplin (Armonk, N.Y.) had a break-away opportunity in the 60th minute, receiving a through ball and breaking through the middle of Wellesley’s defense, but Wellesley’s Kristin Doeberl (West Redding, Conn.) came off her line and made a diving stop to her right to thwart the would-be goal.  The Judges had another near-goal in the 78th minute when Buchanan headed the ball towards the top right of the net off of a corner kick from Brittany Douglass (Tarzana, Calif.), but Wellesley sophomore Elise Duryee-Browner (San Francisco, Calif.) played her post well and headed the ball of the line.

Brandeis outshot Wellesley 22-8, but managed to put only 10 of those shots on goal as Wellesley’s Doeberl made nine saves in a solid outing for the Blue. Brandeis’ Natasha Pieciak (Three Rivers, Mass.) made four saves on eight shots.
