WPI SLIPS PAST WELLESLEY 1-0

WELLESLEY, MASS. – WPI’s Ashley Maiorano (Southampton, Mass.) corralled a misplayed ball in Wellesley’s defensive third and knocked in the break-away goal in the 64th minute to lead WPI to a 1-0 win over Wellesley in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s soccer game, Saturday at Wellesley.  It was the conference opener for both teams. With the win, WPI improves to 5-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC while Wellesley drops it fourth straight game to stand at 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Wellesley outshot WPI 16-7, but managed to put just six of those shots on net as WPI keeper Manda Otterman (Hinsdale, Ill.) made six saves to earn the shutout. Wellesley net-minder Kristin Doeberl (West Redding, Conn.) made one save for the Blue.
