Jones Assists Wellesley in Victory Over WPI
WELLESLEY, MA - Junior Bridget Jones scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Wellesley College soccer team defeated WPI, 3-2, in a NEWMAC game Saturday afternoon.
Jones scored the first goal of the game off an assist from junior Shannon Mulaire with 35:04 remaining in the first half. In the second half, she would assist the game-tying and game-winning goals.
With Wellesley trailing 2-1, Jones set up first-year Anna Stanton off a corner kick with 37:56 remaining in the game. The goal was the first of Stanton's career. Jones would strike less than seven minutes later, this time feeding junior Lisa Andruszkiewicz, who scored the game-winning goal with 31:03 left in the game.
Leading 1-0 in the first half, Wellesley surrendered a pair of WPI goals in a span of 3:08. First-year Erin Thompson scored off an assist from sophomore Amanda Roberts with 32:58 left in the first half. First-year Julie Bradley then gave WPI a 2-1 lead after she scored off an assist from junior Katie O'Neill with 29:50 remaining in the half.
Wellesley sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Senecal played 76 minutes in goal and made six saves.
Wellesley (6-3-1 overall, 3-2-1 NEWMAC) plays at Wheaton Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
