Wellesley Stuns Babson In Penalty Kicks For Second Time
WELLESLEY, MA - The Wellesley College soccer team, the No. 7 seed, advanced to the ECAC New England Championship game Saturday after another thrilling encounter with No. 6 Babson. After playing to a scoreless tie through 120 minutes of soccer, Wellesley advanced on penalty kicks, 8-7.
Wellesley will play at No. 1 Keene State Sunday at 3 p.m. for the ECAC New England Championship.
It was the third time this season the two have gone into overtime and second time Wellesley has advanced on penalty kicks. During the regular season, Babson won 3-2 in overtime before Wellesley took the NEWMAC quarterfinal game in penalty kicks.
Wellesley (8-6-3), which is now 0-3-3 on the season in overtime games, fired 30 shots on net and had five corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Senecal made 14 saves in the win.
