WELLESLEY, Mass. -After a scoreless game and two sudden victory overtimes, # 5 seed Amherst College outscored host Wellesley College 4-3 in penalty kicks. Amherst goalkeeper, Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) stopped two Wellesley penalty kicks in the third overtime to help her team clinch the ECAC Division III semi-final victory this afternoon at Wellesley. Amherst College (11-5-1) will face the # 2 seed Bates College (13-5) in Lewiston, ME tomorrow at 1 PM in the ECAC Division III Championship Game. Wellesley finishes the season at 12-5-2.
Both teams played evenly throughout regulation play and two overtime periods, with Amherst outshooting Wellesley just 13-12. Diamond recorded seven saves on Wellesley's 12 shots while Wellesley goalkeeper Elizabeth Senecal (Wellesley, MA) made five saves on thirteen shots. The Jeff's Jenny Rossman (Newton, MA) scored the game-winning goal in the penalty kick round to give Amherst the 4-3 cushion and 1-0 decision.
