Wellesley Falls In First Round Of Invitational
WELLESLEY, MA - The Wellesley College soccer team gave up three first-half goals and never recovered, losing to Ithaca, 3-0, in the first round of the Wellesley Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Wellesley (0-1 overall) will play in Sunday's consolation game at Noon, while Ithaca will play in the championship at 2 p.m. Ithaca will face Simmons at 2 p.m. Simmons defeated Rivier, 4-0.
Senior Amy Huenniger scored an unassisted goal at the 5:23 mark of the first half to give Ithaca a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Becca Berry added the Bombers' second tally at the 16:02 mark off an assist from fellow sophomore Dawn Rathbone. Ithaca capped its scoring at 37:42, when senior Kristin Mooney found the goal off an assist from junior Angela Dufield. Ithaca outshot Wellesley 12-4.
Wellesley held a slight 5-4 edge in corners. Wellesley sophomore goalkeeper Liz Senecal made nine saves, while Ithaca's Liz Bishop made three stops.
