Wellesley Captures ECAC New England Championship

KEENE, NH - First-year Connie Spearnak's diving header with 11:30 remaining in overtime propelled the Wellesley College soccer team to a 3-2 win over Keene State and the ECAC New England Championship Sunday afternoon.

Spearnak's goal came off an assist from junior Bridget Jones and gave Wellesley, the No. 7 seed, a thrilling win over No. 1 Owls. Wellesley defeated the second, sixth and first seeded teams - in that order - en route to the championship.

Down 1-0, Wellesley would rally and take a 2-1 lead in regulation after unassisted goals by juniors Lani Lee and Lisa Andruszkiewicz. The win was Wellesley's first in overtime this season. Wellesley, which closes the season 9-6-3 overall, played seven overtime games this season, posting a 1-3-3 record.

Sophomore defender Kelly Kehm was named Tournament MVP.
