NORTON, MASS -- The Wellesley College women's soccer team, seeded third in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, upended second-seeded Springfield College, 3-0 today in the second of two semifinal round contests held at Elms Field on the Wheaton College campus.

Advancing to the championship game tomorrow at 1:00 pm. Wellesley will play number-one seed Wheaton in a rematch of last year's final round contest. The Blue and Lyons will have faced one another in three of the last four league championship games, including 1997, 1999 and 2000.

Wellesley raises its overall record to 11-3-2 with the win, while the Pride drop their mark to 13-4-2 on the season. A scoreless opening half between the two squads allowed both teams to make adjustments for the latter half, as Wellesley did just that by posting the game's three goals in the last 35 minutes of play. Junior Nellwyn Hagan (Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme H.S.) got things started for the visiting team, converting her goal from a deflected shot off the save of the Springfield goalkeeper.

The Blue didn't waste any time picking up their second score, as sophomore midfielder Bridget Jones (Seattle, WA/University Prep) distributed a perfect corner kick attempt onto the head of a waiting Lani Lee (Demarest, NJ/Northern Valley Regional H.S.), who banged it home for the 2-0 cushion. With 20 seconds remaining in the contest, sophomore back Lisa Andruskiewicz (Beverly, MA/Beverly H.S.) knocked in an insurance goal, assisted by senior Hilary Soderland (Seattle, WA/University Prep).

Wellesley goalie Elizabeth Senecal (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley, H.S.), who recorded nine saves in the contest, earned her 11th shut-out of the year. The Blue outshot Springfield, 24-7 on the afternoon.
