Ithaca Captures Wellesley Soccer Invitational
WELLESLEY, MA - Ithaca College, which did not allow a goal in two games, won the Third Annual Wellesley Soccer Invitational Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Simmons College. Host Wellesley College won the consolation game, 7-0, over Rivier College to take third place.
Ithaca received goals from senior Amy Huenniger, freshman Lindsey Smith and junior Angela Dufield in the victory. Senior Kristin Mooney passed out a pair of assists, while Tournament MVP Becca Berry also added a helper.
Ithaca sophomore goalkeeper Kris Abbott needed to make just one save to post the shutout. Simmons sophomore goalkeeper Alia Sullivan made 10 saves.
Wellesley was led by sophomore Shannon Mulaire, who scored a pair of goals and added an assist. Mulaire opened the game by scoring unassisted in just 26 seconds. Junior Lani Lee also scored two goals, while first-year Satya Twena, junior Lisa Andruszkiewicz and senior Sara Safriet each added single goals in the win. Safriet also added an assist.
Wellesley sophomore goalkeeper Liz Senecal made a pair of saves in posting the shutout. Rivier sophomore goalkeeper April Boettcher made 18 saves.
Wellesley hosts UMass-Dartmouth Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
