#3 WELLESLEY DEFEATS #6 SMITH IN FIRST ROUND
WELLESLEY, MASS -- Wellesley College (10-3-2), seeded #3, defeated conference opponent #6 seed Smith College (6-9-1) in the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament this afternoon, at Wellesley. The first goal of the game was scored by junior Nellwyn Hagan (Lyme, CT) off an assist by Bridget Jones (Seattle, WA), and Jones set up Kelly Kehm (York, PA) for the second goal late in the first half. Wellesley's third goal was scored by Lani Lee (Demarest, NJ) with 4:57 remaining, assisted by co-captain Courtenay Browne (Rockville Center, NY). Hagan tallied her second goal on the game off an assist by Lee in the second half. Wellesley outshot Smith 21-12. Wellesley goal keeper Elizabeth Senacal (Wellesley, MA) tallied 11 saves, while Smith keeper Elisabeth Sandoe (Lebanon, NH) recorded 9. Wellesley advances to face #2 Springfield College in the Semifinals at Wheaton College this Saturday, October 28th at 1:30PM.
