WELLESLEY, MASS -- Wellesley College won its season opening game today, defeating the Wesleyan University Cardinals by a score of 7-0 (last time the two teams met, Wellesley defeated Wesleyan 3-0). Wellesley goalkeeper Elizabeth Senecal of Wellesley, Mass. recorded nine saves to shut-out Wesleyan. Shannon Mulaire (Stamford, CT) led the Wellesley offense with 2 goals. Senior captain Courtenay Browne (Rockville Ctr, NY), junior Sara Safriet (Fayetteville, GA) and sophomore Lindsey Faulkner each assisted on and scored a goal . Wellesley outshot Wesleyan 18-14. Wellesley goalkeepers Liz Cope (Concord, MA) also recorded four saves while Wesleyan's Ella Naef (Pacific Palisades, CA) saved seven Wellesley shots. Wellesley, currently ranked #5 in New England, will face UMass-Dartmouth in Dartmouth on Tuesday, September 12th. Last season, Wellesley advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals and finished the year with a 17-2-1 overall record and a #11 Final National Ranking.
