WELLESLEY, MASS -- The Wellesley College soccer team scored two goals within forty seconds of each other, eleven minutes into the game, to defeat 18th-ranked Wheaton College by a score of 2-0, at Wellesley, Mass, this afternoon. The victory puts Wellesley at 8-3-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the NEWMAC Conference. Wheaton College, previously unbeaten in league play, falls to 14-2 overall (7-1 NEWMAC). Wellesley Sophomore Bridget Jones (Seattle, WA) sailed a shot to the top right corner of the net over the outstreched arms of Wheaton goalkeeper Emily Boeing (Sudbury, MA) at the 11:06 mark in the first half. Wellesley regained possession off the kick-off and senior captain Courtenay Browne was able to capitalize on a deflection in front of the Wheaton goal, scoring the second goal of the game just 33 seconds later (11:39 minute mark). Wellesley's first-year goal keeper Elizabeth Senecal (Wellesley, MA) recorded 10 saves on Wheaton's 16 shots. Boeing had six saves on Wellesley's 10 shots.
