Wellesley Advances To ECAC New England Semifinals
WELLESLEY, MA - First-year Anna Stanton scored the lone goal of the game off an assist from junior Shannon Mulaire in the 30th minute as the Wellesley College soccer team, the No. 7 seed, defeated No. 2 Springfield, 1-0, in the Quarterfinals of the ECAC New England Championship Wednesday afternoon.
Wellesley will play at No. 6 Babson Saturday in the semifinals. Babson was a 2-1 overtime winner over Eastern Connecticut State Wednesday. Game time has not been set. Wellesley and Babson have met twice already this year with both contests going into overtime. Babson won the first, 3-2, before a 1-1 draw last week in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals forced penalty kicks, which Wellesley won 3-1.
Stanton, Mulaire and teammates were strong the entire game at the offensive end of the field, recording 20 shots on goal and eight corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Senecal made four saves in the win.
With the victory, Wellesley improves to 8-6-2.
