Nazareth Captures 2002 Wellesley College Soccer Invitational With Sudden Victory Goal

Wellesley, Mass. – Erin Zillioux blasted in a one-time shot off Jaime Snyder assist just 35 seconds into the first overtime period to lift Nazareth College (4-0) to a 2-1 overtime win against Wellesley (1-1), claiming the 2002 Wellesley College Soccer Invitational Championship. It was Zillioux’s second goal of the game as she knocked in Nazareth’s first goal in the 29th minute.

Wellesley, behind 2-0 after Zillioux first-half goal, evened the score at 1-1 as Connie Spearnak headed in a Bridget Jones corner in the 74th minute. It was Spearnak’s first goal of the season.

Nazareth’s Erin McConnell was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for her headsy play in the midfield for the Golden Flyers.

In the consolation match between William Paterson (3-2) and Simmons College (0-3), William Paterson came out on top Amy Wieszun netted two second-half goals to down Simmons 2-0

With the score deadlocked for most of the game, William Paterson’s Wieszun netted an unassisted goal in the 74th minute and then found the back of the nets again in the 84th minute off of an Sarah Stowe assist.
