Wellesley Soccer Tops Emerson, 1-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Jennifer Lau (Honolulu, Hawaii) scored her third game-winning goal of the season as she helped Wellesley pick up a 1-0 win over Emerson College under the lighting on Wednesday evening. The Blue improve to 3-1 on the season, while Emerson stands at 1-1-1 after the night contest.

The lone goal of the match came in the eighteenth minute when co-captain Alison Carney (Healdsburg, Calif.) played a ball to Lau’s feet in the box who ripped a shot into the bottom right corner. Wellesley, who out-shot the Lions by a 22-6 margin, could not find the back of the net again.

The Blue’s top chances came when Jordan Akerley (Gilford, N.H.) blasted a shot off the crossbar just before the half and after the break when first-year Haley Geller (Berkeley, Calif.) hammered the ball to the top right of the net just to have Emerson goalkeeper Katie Hartman (Northfield, N.J.) the ball past the post.

In her second straight shutout of the year, Blue goalie Katie Martore (Great Falls, Va.) had five saves, while Lions netminder Katie Hartman (Northfield, N.J.) turned away fifteen shots.

The Blue will return to action next Tuesday when the team hosts Brandeis University in a non-conference 4 p.m. match.
