Worcester, Mass. -- Wellesley College softball players, Jenna Harvey ’08 (London, Ontario), Kara Wong ‘08 (Jacksonville, Fla), and Megan Wood ‘10 (Milford, Mass.) capped a historic season by earning New England Region All-America honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). In addition, Harvey became the program’s first national All-American, landing a spot on the NFCA/Louisville Slugger Division III All-America team.
Harvey earned third team national honors as well as first team All-Region honors. She finished the 2007 season with an 18-5 record and a miniscule 1.02 ERA along with 285 strikeouts which ranked her second in Division III. On the season, she tossed two no-hitters, including one in the NEWMAC (New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference) title win over Babson. Harvey also earned first team NEWMAC honors, as well as being selected as NEWMAC Athlete and Pitcher of the Year. Wong was named to the All-Region second team as a catcher. She finished the 2007 season with a .352 batting average, six homeruns and 26 RBI. In addition, her 16 doubles ranked her nationally in Division III and she led the team in slugging percentage (.648) and on base percentage (.409). Wong was also a first team NEWMAC selection.
Wood earned third team honors on the All-New England team. A first year student, she led the team in hitting with a .365 batting average including eight doubles, one triple and 13 runs batted in. Wood was also named to the NEWMAC second team. Wellesley softball finished the 2007 season with a 25-14 record, earning the program’s first NCAA tournament bid and winning the team’s first ever NEWMAC Championship.
