Women’s Division III Swimming and Diving

 

MIT Takes Narrow Lead After Second Day of NEWMAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships


MIT won three of seven finals this evening to take a 2.5-point lead over defending champion Springfield in the NEWMAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.  Nicole O’Keefe won the 400 IM for the Engineers, with a time of 4:40.68, while Sasha Brophy took the 200 Freestyle in 1:55.61.  O’Keefe and Brophy then teamed with Katherine Thornton and Abby Clark to capture the 800 Freestyle Relay in 7:54.97.
 
The top three swimmers in the 100 Breaststroke final finished under the NCAA B-cut standard.  Springfield’s Moira Price touched the wall in 1:06.38, followed by Babson’s Meg Lynch in 1:07.00 and Wheaton’s Emily Sweatt in 1:07.76.  Wheaton’s 200 Medley Relay team, consisting of Iris Meehan, Emily Sweatt, Abby Pratt, and Meg Miller, also finished under B-cut time, with a conference record of 1:49.65.
