WELLESLEY NIPS MOUNT HOLYOKE 5-4
Wellesley, Mass. – Wellesley first-year
Alex Barrows (Tucson, Ariz.) fought her way to a 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5
win at no. 2 singles to lead Wellesley to a 5-4 win against Mount
Holyoke in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic
Conference tennis match, Saturday at Wellesley.
With the match tied at four points a piece, Barrows defeated Mount
Holyoke’s Aleksandra Mihailovic (Sibenik, Croatia) 7-5 in
the tie-breaker to give Wellesley the win. Wellesley is now 4-3
overall and 4-3 in the NEWMAC while Mount Holyoke falls to 2-7 overall
and 2-5 in the conference.
Barrows also teamed with doubles partner Emily McDonald (Williamsville,
N.Y.) for a gutsy 9-8 (9) win at no. 1 doubles. First-years Hana
Freymiller (Anchorage, Alaska), Barrows and McDonald each earned
singles victories for the Blue at the no. 1, 2 and 3 spots respectively.
