Wellesley Rolls Over Defending NEWMAC Champion MIT

WELLESLEY, MA - The Wellesley College tennis team picked up its most important victory of the season Tuesday afternoon, defeating defending NEWMAC champion MIT, 6-3, inside the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.
The match was forced inside due to inclement weather.

Wellesley (4-1 overall, 4-0 NEWMAC) cleared the biggest hurdle in its quest for a NEWMAC championship. A year ago, the Engineers handed Wellesley its only NEWMAC loss of the season, a 6-3 setback in Cambridge.

Wellesley led 2-1 after the doubles competition before taking four of the six singles matches, four of which went the full three sets.

#5 - Elizabeth Okasako (W) def. Jessica Hall (M), 6-2, 4-6, 6-1
#6 - Kirsi Hakkinen (W) def. Jaclyn Cichon (M), 6-2, 6-2

DOUBLES
#1 - Julie Koo & Larissa Egloff (M) def. Mia Pearson & Stephanie Eckhart (W), 8-4
#2 - Elizabeth Okasako & Esther Handy (W) def. Shima Rayej & Ann Hsing (M), 8-1
