Greetings Alumnae!
I wanted to introduce myself as the new Wellesley College basketball coach in addition to informing you of our 2009 Alumnae Scrimmage scheduled for Sunday November 1, 2009. I am excited about the challenges and rewards of working at such an incredible academic institution with a rich athletic history.
A little about myself and our assistant…
I earned an undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and earned my graduate degree at the University of Kentucky. Along the way I have had coaching stints at Cornell University, Ithaca College, the University of Chicago, and most recently at St. Lawrence University.
Amanda Leahy, a 2008 Bowdoin College graduate will serve as our assistant coach. Amanda and I worked together at St. Lawrence. We have been busy this summer at recruiting events across the nation and hope to bring in our first class next fall. I anticipate that getting to know our alumnae and more about your experiences at Wellesley will help us tremendously in our current recruiting efforts.
My coaching philosophy starts and ends with creating a family atmosphere within our program. Having been fortunate enough to play in a program at Northwestern that fostered the same ideals, I have found success with this approach, both on and off the court. My teams have consistently performed at a high level in the classroom, evidenced by the 2008 St. Lawrence team that placed 3rd nationally in the WBCA’s Division III Poll for GPA. In 10 years as a head coach my teams have advanced to post-season play four times, winning NYSWCAA and ECAC Tournaments as well as three consecutive NCAA appearances at St Lawrence. However, the most rewarding memories stem from the relationships built within that family over the course of each annual journey.
