Message from Coach Spillane

After what seems like the longest winter of all time, we are in the final countdown of days to the start of spring season:  27 days remaining!

After a season on Lake Waban, the team went into the off-season with a true Winter-Training attitude.  The Captains reported that the majority of the team (varsity and novice – just about 60 of them) continued to work diligently on all facets of their fitness.  Over wintersession, we have had student-athletes here taking classes and working on campus, some off in foreign countries, some adjusting life back in the US after a semester abroad, and some enjoying time with family and friends at home.  In general, taking good care and recharging to prepare for what we know will be a great spring season.

We will kick off the spring season with our first annual Row For Humanity – an ergothon of sorts - in conjunction with the Wellesley College Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.  Ten percent of all money raised by the team will be given to the WC Habitat Chapter, the rest will be dedicated to our spring training trip – to a warmer and sunnier climate J.  Once that day is complete we are back to training indoors until the water thaws!

Once we hit the Charles, we will look forward to capitalizing on all that we did last spring: 2nd place in the NEWMAC team championship; first winner of the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award; 6th place team at the New England Rowing Championship; 4 boats qualifying for ECAC.  We accomplished a great deal last year, and knowing this generation of rowers and coxswains, you can rest assured that YOUR crew team has great potential and an ability to go that much faster this spring.

ONE CATCH, ONE DRIVE, ONE RECOVERY, ONE TIME, ONE WIN, ONE TEAM.
